Goodshaw Remembers Them
On Remembrance Sunday the band made two appearances to honour the servicemen & women who gave their lives in war. In the morning we lead the parade and service in Eccles, then in the afternoon we accompanied the service in Nelson. Both were really moving services and very well attended. The Last Post & Reveille at both events were played by our Solo Cornet player Helen Beech – thanks for a job well done!

Third Section Winners at Red Admiral
In June the band celebrated another win at the Red Admiral Hymn & March Contest. Well done to Team Goodshaw!

Successful in Darwen
The band have just celebrated further success at the Blackburn and Darwen Hymn & March Contest, where they were crowned 3rd section champions, a title we have won for two years in a row! Thank you to all our players and fabulous soloists for their hard work.

Whit Friday Wins
The band celebrated probably its most successful Whit Friday on record on 13th June; visiting seven Saddleworth villages and winning a prize in each one. With a tally of three 1st places, three 2nd places, and one 3rd place.
Thank you to all the villages and their volunteers for being so welcoming. We’re already looking forward to 2026!

Sponsored Walk for MND
Our Bb Bass player Nathan has just embarked on an epic walk of 1100 miles, from Cornwall to the Scottish Highlands, with his springer spaniel Tess in memory of his father Glen Mattock who sadly passed away in 2022 from MND. Please donate to his Justgiving page if you can.
Best of luck Nathan and safe travels. We will miss you both at practice!

Carols in the Square
Our annual Carols in the Square takes place at 4pm on Christmas Eve in Crawshawbooth and we invite all the community to come and take part in what is the culmination of a very busy season for the band. Bring along your singing voices and join in a festive singalong to all your favourite Carols!

Goodshaw Remembers
The band was proud to lead two Remembrance Sunday services this weekend; the first at Eccles in the morning, which saw a bumper crowd, and the second in Nelson in the afternoon. The Last Post was played by our cornet player Helen Beech at both services. Thanks to all the band for turning out.

Geoff Pollard RIP
The band is very sad to share the news that our friend and former Cornet player, Geoff Pollard, passed away after a long illness. Geoff was a dedicated musician, a great friend, and he welcomed everyone who entered the bandroom. Unfortunately, poor health meant he could no longer commit to the band, and his last official performance with us was at the National Finals. However, he continued to play for pleasure until very recently. Our thoughts are with his family. Rest in Peace Geoff.

Success at Darwen
In June of this year the Band celebrated success at the Blackburn & Darwen Hymn & March contest, winning the Third Section prize with the march Senator and hymn Eventide.

Whit Friday 2024 Results
This year the band once again took part in the Whit Friday contests, visiting seven villages in the Saddleworth area. The band were pleased with successes in 3 of the villages, including Best Instrumentalist at Diggle, 1st placed Third Section band at Denshaw, and 2nd Placed Third Section band at Grotton. The band also placed 5th overall at Friezland. It was a really enjoyable evening and one we look forward to repeating in 2025!
