About the Band

Goodshaw Band was founded in 1867 when a visit from the Padiham Original Brass Band inspired residents of Goodshawfold to form their own group. Its first performance was in 1868 for the Goodshaw St Mary’s Church Scholars’ procession.

Notable figures from the band’s history include David Heap, the first bandmaster, and Alf Crabtree, who had an association of over 75 years with the band, playing the big drum and serving as treasurer. Ernest Kershaw was also a long-serving conductor.

The band has competed in many national events, including winning Butlins Championships in 2014. It was also the NWABBA 2nd section champions in 2000 and 2001.

The band currently competes in the Third Section and its still based very close in its original home, in the village of Crawshawbooth.

The band is proudly sponsored by BMP Europe Ltd, who are based in Altham, Lancashire.
